INWe moved into our 80+ year elderly home a little over 5 years ago. Our youngest son was 2 years elderly. He didn't want to go to the bathroom alone. He said he saw “black eyes” there. We put it aside, thinking he didn't want to be potty trained and/or had a very energetic imagination. Not long after we moved in, things were disappearing from wherever we had just put them… hairbrushes, keys, coffee cups, etc. and reappearing in another place.
We often felt like we were being watched. While I was working at the computer, I felt a tap on my shoulder. My kids would come up to me and say “what?” because they thought I called them but I didn't. One of my sons and I were sitting in the kitchen talking while washing the dishes. From across the room, a box of cereal flew from the top of the refrigerator, hit the window above the sink, and fell into the sink. We just looked at each other without saying a word.
I began to see a huge, obscure figure coming out of the bathroom, into the hallway, through the wall and back again. My husband doesn't believe in ghosts, well he didn't. But he saw it too. The children started telling us that they saw a huge black “thing” walking around the house. We did NOT tell them what we saw.
One evening my friend came over and we were watching a ghost camera on the Internet. The delicate went out in the computer room. All of our children were over our shoulders and looking at the camera with us. The lights turned on. Thinking it was one of my kids, I said, “Hey, turn it off.” The lights went out. My friend said she even liked them and the lights immediately turned on. One of the kids said, “Whooa, who did that?” We turned around and saw all the kids right next to us, nowhere near a delicate switch. I said, “Well, I want to turn the lights OFF,” and they went off again.
One night I was lying in bed and watching TV. My husband was at work, my two youngest boys were sleeping on the sofa in the living room, my daughter was sleeping in for the night, and my two older sons were watching TV in the living room. My son came and asked if I heard anything. I laughed and said no, I asked if he was watching a scary movie and he got scared. He said no, they watch Family Guy (nothing scary about that, hehe). I told him he was being paranoid. He came back after a few minutes and asked me to come to the living room. Even though I was tired, I went and started working on the sewing project so I could occupy myself while waiting until they felt more comfortable or fell asleep. Both boys looked scared and asked, “Mommy! Did you hear that?” I turned on the sewing machine so I didn't hear anything. I sat down and waited for about five minutes. Nothing happened. I started sewing again and got stopped again! I was really pissed off by then. Frustrated, I started my sewing project. I was stopped by a VERY noisy bang coming from the second floor above me. The boys kept asking me if I heard that. I blamed it on the cats. My son pointed to two sleeping cats on the floor. Before I could come up with another logical explanation, it happened again. And again. And again. For about an hour we heard continuous sounds of banging, banging and the sound of furniture moving on the wooden floors upstairs. We tried to climb the stairs to see what was going on, but honestly, we were afraid to even climb the first step.
Finally the sounds stopped. The boys fell asleep and I stayed up until my husband came home at 6:00. He asked me why I was up so early. I told him I hadn't slept. I was hesitant to tell him what happened because he didn't really believe in hauntings or ghosts, even though he had seen this obscure figure before. He asked me what happened. I told him. He laughed and moved towards the stairs. I was right behind him. He stopped before the last step. I looked around his shoulder and saw that our oldest son's room had been destroyed. The boxsprings were missing from their beds, the mattresses were leaning against the walls, the dresser was in the middle of the room with the TV on top, toys, books, papers and clothes were scattered all over the room. We cleaned the room without saying a word.
I was talking to a friend about this and she suggested we exploit white sage to neat the house. I also googled a lot about hauntings. I would take my digital camera upstairs in the obscure and take photos wherever I felt “funny” or icy. When I went downstairs, I also took a picture of my fireplace because it always felt “funny” there. Nothing showed up on my digital camera's LED screen, but I uploaded the photos anyway. We saw bullets everywhere. At one point in the upstairs hallway, it looked like a galaxy of sorts with hundreds of spheres around it. There was a red stain at the bottom of the stairs. The fireplace photo showed a white woman in what appeared to be a robe and was very delicate white. Wanting to make sure I wasn't suggesting to anyone what it looked like, I just showed my friends and family the photo… Everyone said it was a woman.
We went out and got some white sage and burned it all over the house, outside, inside, everywhere. The situation has calmed down. I talked to a neighbor and she said that devil worshipers rented our house before we moved in. She said there were very strange noises coming from the house and after the eviction, a neighbor and her husband came to visit the owners while they were cleaning and were horrified to see demonic graffiti all over the walls. I thought that cleared it up and was glad we cleaned the house.
After a few months, everything started again. One night my daughter yelled at us and we ran over there while her modern TV was flipping through the channels. I told her she was on the remote control. She pointed to her nightstand, standing on her nightstand. I took out the batteries and the TV kept switching channels. The next day our older boys were shouting at us. We ran to their room and were surprised to discover that every channel was in French. We don't have satellite TV, only cable. We don't live in a French-speaking area and don't usually have French-language TV channels. We turned off the TV.
Water started flowing in our bathtub when no one was even in that part of the house, and the toilet flushed itself. I had a self-cleaning oven. Did you know that when you move the lever to lock the oven door and turn it on for self-cleaning, it makes a buzzing sound? While we were in the living room watching TV, the buzzing sound started repeating itself. We walked into the kitchen and saw the lever moving back and forth very quickly and the digital clock/delicate switching from numbers to letters and symbols at a dizzying pace. We stood there and watched it in silence for almost 5 minutes. My kids looked terrified, so I felt like I had to take control somehow. I shouted in a very stern voice, “Fuck off!” IMMEDIATELY it stopped and the oven door fell completely to the floor. I looked at the door and it looked like the metal semi-circular hinges had been cut.
I tried talking to ghosts. I don't know why, but I think it's the elderly lady who grew up here and inherited this house. I have no idea who the “dark” one is. I said they can stay if they want, but please don't scare our family anymore. I said they would be happier if they got to the other side. Thinking I felt a little stupid for talking to them, I stopped. I started feeling very depressed and sorrowful. I felt like crying. At this point, I began a 3-month battle with deep depression. I just felt hopeless and there was no real reason. My life is great, my family is great, there was just no real reason for me to be sorrowful. When we left, I felt much better. If we went away for the weekend, everything would be fine until we got home. I love this house, so it wasn't my living situation that was depressing me.
I'm working on it, I thought I “improved” when I admitted that maybe my sadness was caused by ghosts. My children started seeing darkness again. Now he seems to like our hall and living room area, kitchen, bathroom, hall, and my daughter (who does NOT believe in ghosts AT ALL) said she saw him standing at the foot of the bed.
Many guests who visit our home say they feel a little scared. We don't tell people what's going on here so they don't have any preconceived notions about a haunted house. They just say they are scared or like something is watching them. My daughter's friend is staying with us for a week, she said she felt a very icy spot in the living room. I felt it where she pointed it out to me. I brought a stool to this place and sat down. I felt icy. My son and friend touched my back, it was icy icy, my face, hands, arms and legs were heated. She didn't know anything about our problems here. She said that earlier, when she was taking a bath, she became scared and felt that she was being watched. She hurried, rinsed off the soap, and ran out of the bathroom. I asked her if she felt “funny” anywhere, she kept talking about the fireplace.
For the last 4 months I have been waking up with very deep, burning scratches on my arms, legs, back and face. I have scars from some of them. CHUMP. They are usually in groups of three… Like this /// . The middle one is almost always the deepest. I have NO fingernails and there is nothing in my bedding that could cause scratches. These are not our cats either. We don't have cats anymore. We have a dog, but he sleeps in my son's room. Sometimes he stops suddenly and growls “nothing.”
I don't know if I was singled out because I made a wise guy, so now he hates me, or if it's singled out because I'm not afraid of it, I don't know why I got scratched. I'm hesitant to try the sage again because I don't want to piss her off again or provoke further action. My mom wants us to get out of here. I don't know if it would follow us or not. For now we just deal with it.
