Something in our villa

Something in our villa

AND I recently went on a week's vacation with my boyfriend and my parents to Fuerteventura (one of the Canary Islands). We rented a private villa and when we arrived, I immediately didn't like the room my boyfriend and I were staying in. I had a very strange feeling that I had never experienced before; it wasn't a bad or scary feeling, just a strange, unpleasant feeling. When we arrived, we sat down in the kitchen for a cup of coffee. I remember sitting at the table and just staring at our room the whole time, almost daring someone or something to come through the door. It was strange because at that moment I didn't know why I felt so uncomfortable there, because I had never experienced anything supernatural before. I just knew that something was “off”.

Throughout the entire vacation, I woke up constantly at night; sometimes 4 or 5 times, with the feeling that someone else was in the room. I never got a good night's sleep. One night, I woke up right at the edge of the bed with that familiar feeling of a “third person” in the room. The compact nightstand next to our bed was gently banging against the wall. I stared at it for a few seconds, wondering what could have caused it, and even immediately moved away from the side of the bed, just in case there was a compact chance that I was doing it myself. However, as I expected, the nightstand continued banging against the wall. It wasn't violent, just a gentle bang, and I didn't feel scared at the time. Honestly, I was so tired that I didn't pay much attention to it and went back to sleep.

The next morning when I woke up my hunches that something was “off” in our room were confirmed but for some reason I didn’t tell my boyfriend or my parents. After all, who ever heard of a haunted contemporary Spanish villa…? The second night I woke up a lot more often than usual because I had burned my back that day and was sore, so I kept a bottle of aftersun cream on my nightstand so I could apply it throughout the night. One time when I woke up I put some aftersun cream on my hand and leaned forward in bed to rub it into my back. I happened to look in the large, long mirror we had on the wall next to my bed and saw something very strange. Even though the room was murky I could clearly see a statuesque, gaunt man walking towards the mirror. He was quite far away, as if he was bouncing from the bathroom and walking into the bedroom. He was dressed in black but had a long, white, frilly thing running down the middle; like he was wearing a frilly white shirt and a black blazer. Kind of like a tuxedo. His hair was weird, it was cut just above his shoulders but it was curled at the bottom in a kind of bob and it was red. It all happened in a matter of seconds. I turned around to look around the room but it was murky and seemed empty. I woke my boyfriend up to ask what time it was and he said it was 6:30 in the morning. I asked him what time it would start getting airy and he said he didn't know so I turned on the airy and eventually fell back asleep.

Later that morning I felt like I had to tell my boyfriend and my parents and I told them everything that had happened. That night was the last night and I left the airy on but I couldn't sleep. I wasn't scared to be there but I didn't particularly want to see “him” again and I was scared to open and close my eyes. It sounds silly but since it was my last night there I was a little worried that he might do something to upset me. So we ended up taking all the bedding into the living room and sleeping on the sofas. Nothing happened that night and although I was very alert and woke up a few times I was relieved to be out of the bedroom.

We’ve been home for a few weeks now and recently my boyfriend admitted that he had this experience too. He said that one night while we were sleeping he suddenly had a low 4 second dream about the shadow of a man in our bathroom walking across the room to close the shower door and then woke up. He said he didn’t want to tell me when we were on vacation so as not to make things worse (I think by that he meant to make my complaints about the man with red hair in our bedroom worse)!

I emailed the company we rented the villa from to ask if other guests had reported anything unusual at the villa but have not received a response.
