On June 18, 1981, Gosplan, the Ministry of Planning of the former USSR, convened an unusual meeting. Several ufologists, astronauts and Soviet authorities were present, including military staff. The meeting was moderated by General Georgi Timofevich Beregovoy, head of the Soviet space program. At his side was Vladimir Kovalyonok, a cosmonaut who, together with Viktor Savinikh, spent 77 days in space on board Salyut-6 earlier in the same year, in 1981. During the meeting, supposedly the cosmonauts revealed that Salyut-6 experienced contact with unknown origin.
