The once stately Sauda Fjordhotel is said to be haunted by a repentant colonel who took his own life when his womanhood lost the love of his life.

At Sauda Fjordhotell in Rogaland, the fjord lies peaceful and dim beneath the mountains, reflecting a building that has witnessed over a hundred guests, celebrations and serene departures. Hotel Sauda Fjord is a manor hotel built in 1914 as a recreation center for the wealthy. Until 1931, Sauda had no road connection to the outside world. All traffic was by boat, which caused problems when the winters were chilly and there was bulky ice on the fjord.

In more state-of-the-art times, the hotel has gone bankrupt time and time again, and reviews speak of a tired place in need of renovation. Most guests check out and leave with memories. Some people, however, never do this. On the third floor, behind the closed door of room 315, there is reportedly unrest.

Sounds at night in Sauda Fjordhotel

Guests assigned to room 315 often report disturbances that begin after dim.

Heavy beats echo around the room, tardy and deliberate, like the rhythm of a cane hitting the floor. In the morning, furniture was found moved from the site. Lights flash on and off without explanation. Glasses slide across the counters as if prodded by an hidden hand.

Some talk about a shadowy figure standing at the edge of the room. Others describe the feeling of being watched, studied and judged. The air turns colder without warning and sleep becomes arduous to maintain.

The colonel who loved too much

His fiancée, humiliated and furious, called off the marriage altogether. Only then did the colonel realize what he had lost. In despair and shame, he took his own life in room 315, hanging himself where he had once prepared for a future that never came. He was only 28 years senior.

A spirit that never changed

Death didn't seem to have softened his nature. It is said that the colonel remained a womanizer even after his death. Guests have reported the disturbing sensation of chilly hands rubbing against them in the dim. Touching the shoulder. A presence too close to ignore. Always tiny. Always relaxing.

One hotel manager stated that many guests in room 315 asked to change rooms because they felt someone was lying next to them.

Room 315 at Sauda Fjordhotell is still in utilize. The door continues to open. The lights still work. But as night falls and the noises begin, some guests realize that not every check-in is followed by a check-out.
