In an historic stepwell beneath Delhi, the water of Agrasen Ki Baoli is said to have turned black and called people to jump to their deaths. Visitors and locals claim to have seen and heard strange things at the bottom, and people think it may be cursed.

The century-old stepwell, Agrasen Ki Baoli, located in Delhi, India, is a great place to hide from the sun on a warm day, but it is said to be closed at night for a reason. Although it has been a popular tourist attraction for many years, this historic structure is shrouded in murky legends and tales of the paranormal, and is closed at night.

Visitors who dare to descend the red stone steps are said to experience a thrill as they approach the depths of the now-dry well, as if unseen forces were watching them. Some even claim to hear ghostly whispers and see shadowy figures lurking in the murky recesses of the baoli, sometimes called Baoli of the Invisible.

Legends Surrounding the Stepwell

Agrasen Ki Baoli is a 14th-century stepwell on Hailey Road, near Connaught Place. Although legend has it that it was built by Maharaja Agrasen, a legendary figure from Indian mythology who was said to have been a great ruler and protector of his people in 3000 BC, no one really knows for sure when or by whom it was built.

Beneath the bustling, up-to-date city of Delhi, India, lies an historic stepwell that runs underground. The water has dried up, but the well is still steeped in legend.

Baoli in northern India means a well with steps leading down to it. It can also be called a water temple. The water source was used not only for drinking but also for meeting in the shade away from the heat, washing clothes and bathing, as in a community hall. Agrasen Ki Baoli is one of the best maintained of some 2,000 historic stepwells in India.

The stepwell consists of 103 steps leading down to a well that was once used to store water during the desiccated season. The well is surrounded by arched niches that were used as meeting places for local communities. The baoli also boasts intricate carvings and designs, including a series of 16th-century inscriptions that detail the history of the stepwell.

Paranormal Evil in Agrasen Ki Baoli

There is no specific event or story that would have started the rumors of the place being haunted. Some say that the place has always been haunted. But from what?

Visitors to Agrasen Ki Baoli have reported a variety of paranormal experiences, from strange sounds and the feeling of being watched to seeing ghosts. Some have reported hearing ghostly whispers and voices, while others have reported seeing shadowy figures lurking in the murky corners of the baoli. There have also been reports of objects moving on their own and sudden drops in temperature that cannot be explained by natural means.

There have been reports of people feeling as if they were being pushed or touched by undetectable hands, as well as sudden feelings of fear or anxiety. These experiences have led many to believe that there is indeed something supernatural at work in Agrasen Ki Baoli.

There are also stories of a genie who supposedly lives in the stepwell and who is responsible for the strange sounds and occurrences that have been reported by tourists over the years.

Curse of the Black Water

According to legend, the well was once filled with cursed black water that did not come from filth, but rather some kind of curse or other evil. The water in the well is now desiccated and there is nothing in it except bats and pigeons. Is that really true? Water was said to have been found in the stepwell up until the 1990s, and many claim that the water was indeed black, but not from filth. So what?

When people came here, when there was water, they spoke of some force that made them want to drown in it. Something murky that called to them or somehow drew them towards the darkness.

When the water in the well found its victims, it forced them into it, and the water level rose and took them away, gushing murky blood. There have been reports of suicides in the past, the last supposedly in 2007, long after the water in the well had dried up. But could it be something in the well that was calling out to certain people?

Haunted Agrasen Ku Baoli

Can we really trust this popular information? According to many, haunted stories became more common after the water supply dried up in the 21st century. Although it is not known when the first rumors about the stepwell began to circulate.

Several bloggers claim that something paranormal has happened here, and some say that many people have been paid to tell these phony ghost stories. The reason is unknown. But if in any way you see any black water rising in the well, know that it shouldn't be like that.
