This story is 100% true. Trust me, I'm not the kind of guy who likes people.
First, let me tell you the situation. This happened when I was a teenager (probably 2011, not sure exactly what year). It was summer time. I lived in a tiny town known as Saint-Hyacinthe in Quebec, Canada. My house was right on a river known as the Yamaska River. It is a long and wide body of water that stretches far into the Montérégie region. My neighbors lived very close to my house. They were very still people and in all my 19 years of living there I don't remember them ever being raucous or irritating. One of my neighbors was an senior gay man who lived with another man, much younger than him. The second neighbor was a couple whose children were a little older than me. They were often absent on weekends and I always knew them to be very truthful and disciplined people.
So here you go. One summer night I was playing video games in the basement while my father was in his office upstairs. The door to his office led to a balcony that looked directly onto the backyard, where the river flows. Suddenly I heard my father rushing down the stairs. When he went down to the basement, he said, “I hear a baby crying outside.” I remember we were very curious and we both quickly went through the basement door that led to the backyard. To my surprise, I actually heard the baby cry. It was raucous enough that it seemed like the baby was several feet away. The closer we got to the river, the louder the screams became. We kept looking around. Of course, we saw nothing on the water. It was tranquil, the moonlight allowed you to see on the water, and there was little wind. My neighbors weren't outside. All the lights went out in their houses and nothing happened. The other neighbors were too far away for the baby's cries to reach us. The noise clearly came from a very close distance. I understand that sound travels more easily in a gigantic body of water because there is nothing stopping it, but it seemed like the baby was too close for him to pass through the water. My father was also very confused and seemed to have no idea where the sound was coming from. The screaming would sometimes stop and then resume after a brief while. We didn't worry for long. To tell you the truth, I was a little scared and felt like I didn't want to be there anymore. I'm not sure my dad was really scared. He was never the type to believe in ghosts. However, he looked surprised when he heard shouting outside. We eventually went back inside and continued our evening. I remember asking myself many questions that evening. To this day I believe it was the ghost of a long-lost child from the past. Who probably drowned or was abandoned on a floating board in the middle of the river. My father never mentioned this event again. I recently tried to talk to him about it, but he doesn't seem to remember it. Or maybe he doesn't want to?
That was the only time I heard this baby in my 19 years of life. It is also the only supernatural experience I have had so far. I believe it was a ghost. I wish I could learn about these types of events.
