The sound of the ghostly clicking of heels is said to echo throughout the Morgan home in Kalimpong, India. It is said to be the ghost of his wife who died prematurely in mysterious circumstances.

Set amidst the tranquil Durpindara Hill in Kalimpong, Morgan House Tourist Lodge is an enchanting aged British mansion, shrouded in history, charm and whispers of the supernatural, overlooking the Kangchenjunga mountain range.

This attractive estate, built in the 1930s in a border town in West Bengal, was once the prized home of English jute trader George Morgan and his wife, who owned an indigo plantation. Her name is not effortless to find and not mention. Morgan House Tourist Cottage was built with their elated wedding and married life in mind. But whether their marriage was actually a elated one is up for debate.

Formerly known for its lavish parties and celebrity guests, the Morgan House Tourist Lodge is now known as a haunted hotel.

The haunted history of Morgan House

Morgan House Tourist Cottage is also known as Singamari Tourist Cottage or Durpin Tourist Cottage. It is a living relic of the British colonial era. Its architecture and atmosphere take visitors back to the times when the British Empire left an indelible mark on the Indian subcontinent of a bygone era.

After his wife's untimely death, Mr. Morgan soon abandoned their home, and the residence remained abandoned because no one from the Morgan family wanted to live in it, as they had no direct heirs, only trustees. Eventually, after independence, it was handed over to the Government of India and the Bengal Tourism Board decided to open a hotel in the aged residence.

The Legend of Lady Morgan's Ghost

Visitors and guests who have ventured into The Morgan House Tourist Lodge have at times experienced the sounds of laughter, crying, and even singing and screaming within the hotel. According to local legends, Lady Morgan's spirit hovers within the walls of this aged British house, wandering the halls in a timeless search for solace or unfinished business.

Mrs. Morgan is said to have died suddenly at Morgan House, and perhaps of an unknown cause. Perhaps it was a suicide by hanging herself in room 101, like most reports of hotel clams, and the most extreme legends are that she was tortured to death by her husband, or at least he drove her to suicide in the mansion.

As legend has it, the ghostly apparition of Lady Morgan reveals her presence in the Morgan House through mysterious footsteps echoing across the cottage's wooden floors. She was seen floating to the second floor, where she allegedly died.

Those who listened carefully say the footsteps clearly sound like someone walking in high heels.

Ghost from the landslide

There is a second theory about the hauntings, namely that bodies are buried under the Morgan house. Apparently, before the mansion was built on the hill, there was a massive landslide. The bodies of the dead who could not be recovered were dragged under it. Instead, a mansion was built on them.

Some guests who have stayed at Morgan House have expressed concerns about ghosts residing there. Some of them were given a Bible to take with them for assist.

The enduring mystery of the Morgan House Tourist Shelter

The Morgan House Tourist House in Kalimpong continues to be a place of intrigue and fascination for travelers. And now their aged bedroom and the most talked about room 101, where Mrs. Morgan allegedly hanged herself, is one of the most popular rooms in the hotel.

The question of whether Lady Morgan's ghost actually floats in this place or whether the sounds are a figment of the guests' imagination remains unanswered. However, it is the charm of the unexplained that draws curious souls to this historic hill station.
