It was February 1977, and students at a small elementary school within the town of Broad Haven, Wales, were playing on the varsity playground during recess.
One of the boys, David Davies, decided to not go to the playground, but as a substitute sat within the classroom and browse a book, he liked this quiet time.
Suddenly, several of his classmates bumped into the classroom and began competing with one another to speak about what large UFO was flying over the trees near the playground. Davis thought, “This is nonsense,” and was about to take it as a joke, but he went outside anyway.
“I saw this cigar-shaped silver thing, about 40 feet long, emerging from behind the trees in front of me. And all I could think about was escaping,” says David Davies, now 57.
He ran home and told his mother everything, and she immediately believed: “You know how mothers are – they always know when you're lying. And then she was completely convinced that I was telling the truth.”
Sean Garrison, another student at the same school, also witnessed a UFO that day. Now he is also over fifty. And his parents also immediately believed his words.
“I went home and told my mom and dad, but they didn't judge me at all. They believed me right away.” Some students saw not only the UFO within the cockpit, but in addition its pilot. They say he was wearing a silver suit and there was another person on his right.
Overall, the complete Broad Haven student body saw something that was difficult to clarify in any logical way. The children were also asked to attract what they saw and drew typical “flying saucers”.
At first, most adults simply dismissed the kids's words, believing they were simply plotting to play a prank or that some form of “mass imagination incident” had occurred, but in the next weeks, adults began to see UFOs and humanoids.
A number of months after the schoolyard sighting, hotel owner Rose Granville – who lived a number of hundred meters away from the coast – reported seeing the spacecraft as she was going to bed.
“She looked out the window and saw this thing floating in the air,” her daughter Francine recalled in “Encounters.”
“These two characters came out of it. They looked a little uncertain.
Rose reported that they had “very long arms and legs” and no facial features. The Granvilles said the spacecraft left a burn mark and a ridge on the ground where it landed.
The government X-Files later showed that Rose wrote to her local Member of Parliament on Haven Fort Hotel letterhead, explaining that the event “left me very agitated and anxious and I did not in the least desire another meeting.”
A month or two later, a few miles around the Marloes Peninsula, Mark Morston claimed that while walking alone, he not only saw a spaceship, but also came face to face with a figure.
Claiming to have seen an “upside-down saucer in the glow” on a embankment near his home, he then described hearing rustling in the hedge further down the road.
“That thing came out of the hedge,” Mark said. “He was 2 meters tall, wearing a silver suit with a motorbike visor for a face.
“I believed, 'that's not a person, there's no way that's a person.' He began walking towards me and I believed, “this isn't happening.”
“I used to be quite scared. He kept walking, so I set him on his feet.
The next day, Mark and his dad returned to the scene and said they found an enormous print within the mud, “too big to be an ordinary human.”
Mark's uncle and aunt later told a television reporter that they saw an 8-foot (2.4-meter) featureless silver figure outside their isolated farmhouse.
Police were called to the incident, and the officer who answered the family's call later stated that “in all my 26 years of service, this is the most terrified family I have ever met.”
Local farmers also began to note mysterious moving lights within the fields one after the other, after which they saw a large faceless figure in a silver suit.
And one farmer told something absolutely incredible: he allegedly saw a herd of his cows teleporting to a different farm.
A number of months after the events at Broad Haven, Steven Spielberg's acclaimed film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” was released in theaters, and Spielberg recently visited Broad Haven to observe the Netflix UFO documentary series “Encounters.”
