It is said that the spirit of the former priest is persecuted his presbytery in Bubendorf, except for the baseli in Switzerland. The question remains, is his spirit still going on in centuries?
In the village of Basel, located between the rolling hills and serene forests, lies the village of Bubendorf, a picturesque place where time seems to sluggish down. It is also said that this is a haunted place. It has been in this village for over 500 years and it seems that he is not going anywhere.
But behind the serene facades of this historical community lurks one of the most famed and best documented ghost stories in the region-noven presbytery in Hauptstrrasse 62 and its disturbing inhabitant: the spirit of pastor Wilhelm Stübin.
A pastor who loved his fields more than his herd
Wilhelm Strübin, who died in 1795, was a local clergy in Bubendorf for many years. However, his congregation did not remember him tenderly. According to all relations, Strübin had a greater passion for his fields and agricultural affairs than to the spiritual well -being of his parishioners. Complaints concluded his growing neglect and indifference, eventually led the church authorities to establish an assistant to share his duties – a serene but public humiliation for a wayward priest.
His global attachments, so much embarrassed in his life, would apparently prevent him from finding rest in his death. There is talk of one of the Strübins that he was so scanty for his life that he paid more attention to his horse than his herd. He even brought a horse to his deathbed. Legend has it that you can now hear him lead him up the stairs as a ghost.
Presbytery besieged with restless spirits
After Strübin's death, the silence of the presbytery gained a gloomy reputation. Strange disturbances harassed the house, and the sinister activity seemed to be in time. The most disturbing and well -documented reports come from the Schölly family, who lived in the presbytery in 1884–1926.
The wife of the priest's parish, Clara Schölly-Wverdenberg, was led by a diary that would become a chilling registration of night torment. She described with concern strange phenomena that disturbed their house:
“We often heard steps on the stairs at night, and then the sound of an object flowing down the stairs. Then we often woke up, knocking on the door of our bedroom, often several times on one night.”
It is said that she often lay in bed when she heard the ghosts rumble in their home. She prayed with them until they left. Her daughter allegedly saw the ghosts haunting their home. One day she took the washing outside, her daughter said: “Look, someone helps!” At that time, no one else was with them.
One particularly disturbing evening of Clara talks about nightlife to serene the nerves. But the spirit would not be discouraged.
“The tumor woke me up on the first night, and here, the nightlife was turned off, and the match box was overwhelmed by my pillow.”
The implication was clear: something – or someone – underestimated the attempt to break through the obscure.
Tithes books
Over time, the family was looking for an answer. Finally, during the renovation and thorough cleaning of the aging building, a secret compartment was discovered in the presbytery walls. Inside ancient books from the tithe of pastor Stübin – he meticulously conducted provisions regarding agricultural fees and parish, which is a constant testimony of a man's material obsession.
These dusty books, hidden for so long, were removed from home. And with their removal, as the worst haunting apparently began to give way.
Regardless of whether it was the spirit of Strübin, not the desire to part with his earthly goods, or more symbolic, unrelated to the restless past of the house, the inhabitants still believe that the discovery of these tithing books meant a turning point in the haunted history of the presbytery.
The restless past still resembles eh
Those who lived in an alleged haunted house, like Josef Handschin and Christoph Monsch, said they never experienced something ghostly. Although people living in front of Monsch, they say that was the case. Pastor Rolf Schlatter, who has an office in the ancient presbytery, also claims that he has heard strange sounds around midnight.
Although now silence, the Bubendorf presbytery remains a place of whispered anxiety. The haunted story is remembered especially through the book by Fanny Moser: Ghosts: false faith or a real belief from 1950 from preface by Jung. Visitors claimed that they could hear delicate steps in ancient staircases, and the locals swear that in certain nights of fog solutions you can see a strengthened standing figure standing at the house, looking at the fields.
