In the up-to-date BBC series Myth CountryScientists set off on a night trip in the village of Norfolk, hoping that he will capture the infamous hell in the film. But is this mysterious creature really exists and what can be explained by numerous observations over the centuries?

According to the historian and anthropologist David Waldron from the Federation of the University of Australia, the stories of black dogs in the British Isles date back to the 9th century. Interestingly, similar stories appear throughout the country and Europe as a whole.

Black Shucka's eyewitness accounts are often complex to interpret. Many describe the “clear sense of evil” after meeting the creation. One of the earliest records, describing “coal” Hounds with “eyes like sauces”, dates to 1127 in Peterborough Chronicle, a historic manuscript.

However, scholars suggest that the Black Shuck legend has gained publicity in the church of the Holy Trinity in Blythburgh, East Suffolk, on August 4, 1577.

During a violent storm, supposedly the black “devil's dog” fell into the church, killing a man and a boy and causing the collapse of the spire. Locals believe that Claw Marks on the church door, known as “Fer's Fingerprints”, were left by the beast.

On the same day, another meeting was reported in the Bungay church, described later by Reverend Abraham Fleming. According to the text, the black dog passed between two people, snaping his neck.

Dr Jonathan Woolley, environmental anthropologist and Cambridge University graduate, fortress This black shuck “definitely exists”, playing an vital role in how people perceive the amazing landscape of Eastern England. However, the exact nature of its existence remains a mystery.

One of the leading theories among scientists suggests that Black Shuck can be an undiscovered species of a wild dog, which has so far emerged scientific observation. However, Dr. Woolley rejects this idea, arguing that a stray dog is unlikely to be responsible for such “complex and supernatural” phenomena.

Dr Waldron believes that it is engaging that Abraham Fleming's account contains two observations of hell on the same day, in different locations.

As a pious priest, Fleming could intend his story as a “call to weapons against sin.” His account enters a long -term myth of black dogs as traples of extermination, beliefs that have been penetrating European folklore for centuries.

Interestingly, within 450 years there were many observations from church incidents, and meetings have continued to this day. One unforgettable account from 1973 comes from Keith Florey, who said that the dog was chasing him at Old Barrack Road in Woodbridge when he was on a motorcycle.

The recently retired newspaper seller Nigel Thorpe announced that he saw a huge dog about “glowing” eyes jumping towards him on an abandoned road in Great Yarmouth.

During the study of his book, Dr. Waldron talked to many people who claimed that they met a devil's dog.

According to him, these conversations often reflected deep religious experiences. Although he admits that telling such stories is a “delicate task”, Waldron believes that these observations may result from cases of erroneous identity.
