In the former hotel, now turned into a business building, the venerable Blaisdell hotel is said to be haunted by more than one ghost. From former guests who died in the hotel, to navy spirits and another apartment in the basement.

Hotel Blaisdell, built in 1912, is one of the oldest hotels in Hawaii, a relic from the era in which Honolulu was the life of the center for sailors, travelers and adventurers. Although it no longer serves as a hotel, the building now houses companies and serves as Hawai'i Pacific University Sea Warrior Center.

Despite the newfangled apply, the Blaisdell Hotel is steeped in history-and ghostly legends that still persecute their corridors.

Echoes of the past: a haunted navy man

During World War II, Hotel Blaisdell was a popular place for sailors looking for rest and relaxation. But some say that not everyone who checked that they ever left. It is said that the third floor of the building is persecuted by the Navy. Visitors and employees in the building felt a strange presence, a icy draft in toasty corridors and an inexplicable observation impression. Some say that she saw a ghostly figure of a sailor, dressed in a crunchy Navy uniform, wandering in the corridors, as if he is still looking for something – or someone – long.

A tragic jump at the Blaisdell Hotel

The murky history of the hotel does not end with this. Javier Fombellida, a former elevator operator in Blaisdell, tells a disturbing story he has heard from tenants for years. As he said in an interview:

“Sometimes I see … things, but I don't believe in ghosts,” he says. “I always say it's a shadow, light, or probably someone is there. Sometimes I want to see something to make me a believer, you know?”

According to a local legend, a hotel guest once jumped off the window on one of the upper floors, falling on her death. According to some sources, it is said that it happened in the 1960s.

While Fombellid himself saw nothing, tenants tell the stories of a little girl or a Hawaiian man appearing in the corridors, their fleeting and ghostly characters. Whether these symptoms are associated with a tragic jumper or other spirits that haunt the building remains a mystery.

Perhaps the most terrifying story related to the Blaisdell Hotel is the story of a former owner in the 1980s, who, affected by despair, hung himself in the basement of the building. According to the story, he had a huge gambling debt. Fombellida ventured into the basement, and the legend is that the rope used in a tragic event remains intact.

A place where ghosts wander

Today, the Blaisdell Hotel stands as a piece of history of Honolulu, a building where countless life goes through its doors. However, it seems that some of these lives have never really been left. The ghosts of the past still reveal their presence, persecution of corridors, staircases and basement. Regardless of whether he is a Navy man on the third floor, a tragic character of the jumper or the specter of the former owner, the Blaisdell Hotel is a place where the line between the living and the dead is blurred.

For those who work or visit the Blaisdell hotel today, stories serve as a chilling impression that history is never really in the past. The ghosts of those who once walked in the corridors remain, their stories woven into the tissue of the building. And although not everyone can see these ghosts or hear these ghosts, amazing stories are still conveyed, ensuring that the haunting story of the Blaisdell Hotel will never be forgotten.
