In recent years, the world's fascination with UFOs has reached fresh heights. However, according to Pavel Poluian, a Russian physicist and philosopher with a background in geophysics, these observations may have a more Earth-related explanation.
In his letter to anomalien.com, Poluian claims that UFOs – or at least many of them – are advanced spy devices developed by the United States during the Cold War, equipped with plasma-powered propulsion systems that mimic the characteristics of otherworldly craft.
Poluian, who published many works refuting pseudoscientific theories, including: “Elimination of UFOs“And”UFO hunting” explains that he believed these ships were part of a secret United States military project begun shortly after World War II.
According to him, the project aimed to develop an aircraft using an unconventional propulsion system that generated lift using high-frequency vibrations.
Beginning with early designs such as James Pitts's “Sky Car” orthotopter umbrella, the technology has evolved into what is now associated with the iconic “flying saucers” of popular UFO lore.
Evolution of high-frequency plasma drive
According to Poluian, this technology has gone through many stages of development. In the 1940s, the U.S. government investigated a drive system using high-frequency electromagnetic vibrations, which eventually led to designs with dome-shaped “diaphragms” resembling loudspeakers.
Poluian points out that fragments of these early devices, possibly coming from test facilities such as Roswell, may have contributed to the UFO legend because the materials and configurations were alien to civilian eyes.
Over the following decades, engineers allegedly refined these designs, developing piezoelectric thrusters and plasma propulsion panels. These panels, he explains, contain thousands of discharge cells, i.e. small plasma engines, densely distributed on the flat surfaces of the ship.
When activated, these plasma thrusters release jets of ionized air, creating lift and acceleration by propelling the air at high speeds – a feat achieved by harnessing the Lorentz force.
Poluian compares this configuration to a “jamjet,” in which plasma jets create powerful air vortices that stabilize the ship's flight.
MARAUDER: A look at the plasma drive
One project that Poluian believes could be compatible with this technology is MARAUDER (Magnetically Accelerated Ring to Achieve Ultra-high Directed Energy and Radiation), a U.S. government-funded initiative that has reportedly examined advanced plasma propulsion methods.
The project, which was highly secretive, attempted to use the power of guided plasma for military applications. Although limited information is available, the basic concepts – high-speed plasma jets and directed energy – closely match Poluian's descriptions of UFO propulsion.
Despite its impressive capabilities, Poluian insists it's plasma technology it was excluded from civilian use for several reasons. First, the powerful pulses needed for plasma thrust generate harmful microwave radiation, making the craft unsuitable for regular crewed missions.
These pulses can disrupt on-board electronics and pose a health risk to the human crew, limiting their use to unmanned surveillance. Additionally, the thrust-to-weight ratio of the plasma drive is not sufficient to carry heavy loads; instead, it appears to have been optimized for lighter, covert surveillance missions.
Poluian further claims that these ships lack traditional radio communications. They operate autonomously according to pre-determined mission parameters that match reports of “drone-like” behavior observed during UFO encounters near military installations.
According to Poluian, these surveillance missions were often conducted in the desert, particularly near geological survey sites, where they were monitored for any signs of unauthorized construction or testing.
Post-Cold War: Decline in UFO Sightings?
Poluian notes that the number of sightings of these mysterious ships began to decline after the end of the Cold War, a period he attributes to a decline in U.S. consumption of magnesium, a critical material in the ships' fuel cells.
He believes this trend reflects a reduction in production of the craft after the 1990s. According to Poluian, by 2007–2008, magnesium use had dropped so rapidly that the “flying saucer” project seemed to have been all but abandoned.
Poluian, however, suggests that while the United States may have limited the technology, Russia and China have reportedly continued development by reverse-engineering downed devices.
This continuation points to a broader international race to replicate and innovate this technology, albeit under a cloak of secrecy.
What if UFOs are just spy drones?
Poluian's claims represent an intriguing twist to the typical UFO narrative because they suggest that many sightings of “alien” craft could instead represent encounters with American reconnaissance drones equipped with advanced plasma-based propulsion.
The fact that UFO sightings often cluster around sensitive locations such as military bases and missile silos may support this hypothesis. Poluian claims that these observations are “terrestrial technology,” not alien.
He also speculates that in the near future, with further declassification, we may see larger airships using this plasma technology adapted for Arctic missions.
As U.S. publications proliferate discussions of non-human beings and possible alien encounters, Russian narratives such as Poluian's remain skeptical, attributing these observations to human ingenuity in secret military technology.
But if these plasma-powered ships are indeed man-made, why is their existence still hidden from the public? And what other technological advances remain hidden, influencing global politics from behind the scenes? Are we prepared for a future in which these technologies are finally recognized and perhaps even declassified? And if so, what does this reveal about the lengths governments go in pursuing power and oversight?
Perhaps the greatest mystery is not about aliens, but about the unknown possibilities that humanity has already achieved – and kept hidden.
