A petite patch of dirt road known as Igorchem Bandh is said to be extremely haunted, especially during the day. Evil spirits are said to lurk on the path, waiting to be possessed, sometimes resulting in death.
In the tranquil village of Raia, located near Rachol in Goa, India, lies a road shrouded in shadows and whispered stories – the infamous Igorchem Bandh, or Church Road. Aptly named due to its proximity to the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, it is located just behind it.
This section of road covered with red earth is described as a tranquil place except for the wind, narrow and almost deserted. The trail also gained notoriety for its chilling association with midday hauntings, as opposed to the more common night hauntings.
Visitation of Igorchem Bandha
The Igorchem Bandh road has become the scene of countless spine-chilling encounters, with each tale more disturbing than the last. Witnesses tell of incredible possessions followed by unexplainable deaths, sending shivers down even the most skeptical residents.
Residents recount nights filled with the haunting echo of ghostly footsteps and disturbing snoring, weighty breathing coming from the darkness of the surrounding vegetation, weaving a tapestry of fear that shrouds the road in an otherworldly aura.
Local legend of a haunting in broad daylight
So what is the story behind the alleged haunting on this particular stretch of road? According to a blood-curdling legend, at 2 p.m. there is a warning against crossing the border. According to local lore, this unlucky hour causes dizziness and unintelligible speech, leaving travelers at the mercy of unseen forces.
If you travel this route between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., there is a greater risk of being possessed by the evil spirits that roam these parts.
Could something paranormal happen? Or is it just a case of severe sunstroke that happens in a toasty place like Goa in southern India?
Folklore about evil spirits
Where do these rumors come from? Is there really such a thing as a daylight haunting? According to reports from Incredible Goa magazine, Igorchem Bandh is said to be teeming with ghosts and their presence can be felt even in the radiant featherlight of day, and confirmation of this can apparently be found in local tradition, even told by the priest of a nearby church.
It is rumored that these malevolent entities prey on the weak-willed, seeking to possess their souls in the region, especially those with low self-control. Once possessed, victims are said to exhibit unearthly behavior, such as speaking an unknown language, their eyes burning crimson, and their skin turning ashen. According to legends, their whole body trembles until they die within a few hours.
Therefore, check the time before crossing the road. Perhaps this route is best traveled in the middle of the night.
