Indira Gandhi Medical College is located deep in the mountainous Shimla, India. The university campus and the road leading to the school are believed to be haunted.
In the picturesque district of Shimla, the prestigious Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) is both a medical college and a hospital. Established in 1966, it was initially called “Medical College, Shimla” and was located in the former Snowdon Hospital.
IGMC, i.e. Government Medical College and Hospital. Indira Gandhi, began its journey in the early 1960s, slowly growing into one of the most significant medical institutions in Himachal Pradesh. Initially offering only MBBS classes, it expanded over time.
It evolved over the years and was rechristened in 1984 as Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla. Today, it is the largest medical facility not only in Shimla but in the entire Himachal Pradesh.
Mysteries beyond medicine at Indira Gandhi Medical College
However, there is an amazing and mysterious side of Indira Gandhi Medical College that talks about paranormal experiences. Patients, their families, doctors and staff are said to have encountered unexplainable events that give the facility an aura of mystery. Corridors, elevators and rooms became the scene of strange events.
Strange noises, unexplained voices and disturbing sensations have become part of the everyday life of some university residents. Some say their names were called and then they turned around and saw no one there.
Both guests and staff described the feeling of being pushed from behind when going up and down certain stairwells. Some people say they have been stuck in elevators for hours and nothing has happened to them.
It is widely believed that these troublesome activities are attributed to the spirits of individuals who met their fate within the walls of the hospital. Although the motives behind these ghosts haunting the college remain uncertain, their presence created an atmosphere of unease that enveloped the premises.
Haunted road to IGMC
Not only is the building itself haunted, but the road leading to the hospital and college is also said to be haunted. The forest road leading to the facility is not devoid of amazing legends, although it is in no way connected with the hospital legends.
It is said that in the 1960s, a man who sold oranges on this road tragically died while working. Some claimed to have witnessed his apparition while walking. Holding his basket of oranges, a ghostly salesman appears, though he does no harm to those who encounter him.
