This tranquil holiday island with its lush beaches, Madh Island Road and nearby beaches are said to be haunted by the ghost of a bride-to-be who was brutally murdered in the area.

Madh Island Road, located in Mumbai, India, is known for its picturesque beach and luxurious resorts overlooking the Arabian Sea. However, many people do not know that this seemingly idyllic location is also home to one of the scariest ghost stories in India.

This road connects the mainland of Mumbai with Madh Island, which is a diminutive fishing village with a population of about 10,000. The narrow and deserted road is about 15 kilometers long and is surrounded by mangroves, salt pans and fishing villages.

Legend has it that a woman dressed in white appears on the road at night, causing accidents and terrorising anyone who gets in her way, both on Madh Island Road and on the surrounding beaches.

Murdered woman in mangroves

One of the most widely-told legends about the area involves a newborn woman who supposedly hangs out here. According to the story, she was brutally murdered on her wedding day, her body dumped in the dense mangrove forests nearby.

She is said to wander the beaches and streets, where she stops cars from passing. According to the story, she still wears her wedding dress and ankle bracelets as she sobs. Why? To get aid or to warn people? To get revenge? In any case, she is said to have caused several car accidents that occur on these roads.

Death on the road

Another version of the legend is that she wasn't murdered per se, but died in a car accident with her husband on their wedding night. The reasons for their accident have many variations. Some say they were just unlucky, others say her husband sped out in front of the car and jumped out, leaving his wife to fatally crash into him.

The woman died at the scene, and her ghost has haunted the road ever since. According to legend, the ghost of a woman appears on the road at night, causing accidents and terrorizing anyone who gets in her way.

When these stories took place varies, but the legends go back at least a few decades. According to the stories, she appears on full moon nights, and staff working in nearby hotels have been said to hear her death cries.

Ghost of the bus passengers

Another legend from these parts tells of the ghosts of passengers in a ghost car that has crashed somewhere on the road. The ghosts are said to haunt the road, seeking aid. There are also several car accidents that supposedly left their spirits wandering the road, where they died for eternity.
