Artificial intelligence and robotics have advanced rapidly in recent years, and the combined results are astonishing – often resembling something straight out of a dystopian sci-fi movie.
According to the company, Aria, developed by Realbotix, is a step forward in combining artificial intelligence with robotics to create “social intelligence, adaptability and realistic human characteristics.”
The Aria's design is striking. She has blonde hair, makeup and is wearing a black tracksuit. Its appearance resembles a human, which distinguishes it from the mechanical creations of Tesla or Boston Dynamics.
While it's unlikely anyone would mistake her for a real person, Aria's realistic features and movements make the robots look more like their human counterparts than ever before.
The robot recently made a splash at CES, an annual trade show showcasing the latest technological innovations. Participants were amazed by Aria's ability to conduct conversations using ChatGPT-style artificial intelligence.
This allows her to process and respond to verbal signals, creating an interactive experience. Although her head and arm movements remain somewhat automatic and jerky, they provide a degree of realism that makes her a fascinating demonstration of what is possible with current technology.
Aria is not a universal product. Realbotix plans to offer multiple versions of the robot to suit different customer preferences and budgets.
These will range from a stationary head placed on a table to a full enclosure version capable of moving on a wheeled platform. The full variant not only increases the robot's presence, but also increases mobility, expanding its potential applications.
However, owning this futuristic companion comes with a high price. Depending on the model, the Aria costs up to $175,000, which puts it in the luxury market.
While it's undoubtedly an impressive piece of technology, its price range means it's likely to remain out of reach for all but the wealthiest buyers.
