The Grand Paradi Towers, a multi-story apartment building in Mumbai, is said to be haunted, possibly due to a series of suicides that have occurred, leaving people wondering… why? Could it have been something paranormal that made them do this?

Rising high amid the bustling landscape of south Mumbai, India's financial center, the Grand Paradi Towers, three residential skyscrapers built in 1975 in Kemps Corner, have long been associated with luxury and wealth.

Originally home to the city's wealthiest residents, the 28-story building, once one of the most steep in Mumbai, now has a much darker reputation. Over the years, it has gained fame as one of the most haunted places in India, with rumors that a ghost forces residents to jump to their deaths.

Towers of the Grand Paradi: These luxury apartments are now believed to be among the most haunted in Mumbai.

A story of wealth and tragedy

When Grand Paradi Towers was built, it was the epitome of high-end living, attracting Mumbai's elite. They were diamond traders, businessmen and Bollywood stars. However, this image of prosperity began to crumble in the overdue 1990s.

It seems to have started with the suicide of an elderly couple living in high-rise buildings. Soon their son and daughter-in-law suffered the same tragic fate.

Beginning in 1998, the towers became notorious for a series of inexplicable suicides that have since cast a long, eerie shadow over the corridors. More than 20 residents died prematurely by jumping from the height of the building, and tragically the victims were not only adults, but also maids and children.

What exactly is happening in the apartments of this wealthy skyscraper?

The Curse of the Eighth Floor

A wave of suicides confirmed many people's belief that the building was cursed, and the eighth floor in the B wing gained particular fame. The most disturbing events took place on this floor, including the deaths of three generations of the same family who jumped to their deaths. The arrangement of these tragic events gave rise to the belief that the presence of evil or an evil spirit forced the inhabitants to take their own lives.

Locals and residents reported a disturbing atmosphere on the eighth floor. The stories are rife with strange occurrences such as disembodied whispers, cool spots, and an overwhelming feeling of fear that grips anyone who lingers in them for too long. The inexplicable nature of these suicides has led to rampant speculation about paranormal influences, with many people believing that an unseen force is driving people to their deaths.

Paranormal activities and imperceptible creatures

Visitors and paranormal enthusiasts who have ventured to the Grand Paradi Towers often report amazing experiences. Flashing lights, sudden gusts of cool wind and the feeling of being watched are all commonly reported.

Some people claim to have seen shadowy figures move around the periphery of their field of vision, only to disappear when directly observed. The most chilling accounts come from those who felt an unseen force pushing or pulling them towards the edge of their balconies, triggering an instinctive fear of their inevitable fall and a chilling voice urging them to commit suicide.

Suicide victims

But could it have been something other than paranormal phenomena that prompted residents to take their own lives?

In the case of an elderly couple, Vasadeo and Tara Dalal, on June 14, 1998, police found a letter detailing how they claimed that their son and daughter-in-law had abused them until they died. Seven years later, when the verdict was passed against his son and daughter-in-law, he chose the same fate, as did their 19-year-old daughter. They lived on the eighth floor and from then on, haunting rumors began to circulate, especially since it was connected to the eighth floor. They are said to have then sealed the apartment in question. However, it is not known whether this is still the case.

Charisma Kadakia, 24, who jumped in 2000, was said to be depressed, although her boyfriend claimed he had no idea about her plans.

In the case of the maid, it is unclear whether she actually jumped or fell out of the window. There was also another domestic worker who threatened to jump from the 19th floor after his employers accused him of theft.

A place of anxiety and avoidance

Today, despite its prime location and luxurious facade, many people avoid the Grand Paradi Towers, fearing its haunted reputation. The once desirable address has declined, with potential buyers and tenants often put off by the building's gloomy history.

Another thing worth noting is its proximity to the mysterious Bombay Tower of Silence in the forest just behind the towers. Stories say that when the suicide occurred, vultures could still be seen circling over the Parsi burial site, giving the place an eerie feel.

At one point, the committee organized counseling sessions for its residents in an attempt to stop the perilous trend. There were rumors about the reason for the strange things happening in the towers. Did they actually build apartments in the burial ground?

The owners even got carried away by the haunting rumors and ordered a puja and havan. It is said that activity has since ceased.
