D'Mello House is considered to be one of the most haunted places in Goa, India. According to legend, the rivalry between two brothers for the estate turned deadly, and their spirits are said to linger in the once stately home.

Hidden among the serene hills of Santimol, Raia in South Goa, lies a structure shrouded in darkness and fear – the infamous D'Mello House. Once a symbol of family pride, this abandoned mansion now stands as a disturbing reminder of a tragic past.

Today, the mansion has a haunted atmosphere with gloomy rooms and dilapidated walls. Both inside and outside, it is covered with vegetation that is slowly taking over the once impressive building. The roof would soon collapse, and windows and doors had been broken countless times by people curious about the haunted history the building concealed.

Legend has it that the house is cursed by the vengeful spirits of the D'Mello brothers, forever trapped in a cycle of torment and despair.

The story goes back to the times when the once close D'Mello brothers during the Portuguese rule in Goa, which lasted from 1505 to 1946, inheritors of their ancestors' fortune, succumbed to greed and jealousy.

Fueled by a constant desire for power and possession, their sibling rivalry escalated into a brutal confrontation one fateful night. In a fit of rage, one brother mercilessly took the life of another, staining the foundations of the house with blood.

But the nightmares didn't end there. Within days of the gruesome event, the second brother met a mysterious death, leaving behind a legacy tainted by tragedy. The exact nature of his death has always remained a mystery. Since then, the House of D'Mello has become a beacon of fear, its walls echoing with the anguished cries of dead souls.

Some say it was the murdered brother who came back as a ghost to take revenge on his brother. The two are said to now haunt the mansion where they had an argument and lost their lives.

It was written by a woman named Maria de Lourdes Bravo da Costa Rodrigues article for The Navhind Times. According to her, she knew the rest of the D'Mello family. According to legend, the house was supposed to be located in Santimol in Raia, but was it really so? According to her sister-in-law who lives in the village, there was no such house.

However, there was an abandoned house belonging to the De Melo family who lived in Raia until they moved to Panaji. This house even served as a wedding venue in the 1970s and is still not abandoned as in the stories. But was it already haunted then, or did rumors of it being haunted only begin after the family moved there?

In any case, most will be referring to this house on Raia Santimol Road, where the aged residence still called D'Mello House is slowly falling into disrepair.
