Built to stop the British, Fort Mackinac saw his straightforward participation of death, both in war and peace times. Soldiers dying in wars, children received in diseases are only some of the many spirits, which are said to be persecuted by the ancient fort on the island of Mackinac.
In the flawless waters of Lake Huron, located between the upper and lower half -vein Michigan, the island of Mackinac stands as a tranquil retreat known for the striking beauty, luxurious history and a significant reputation of paranormal phenomena. In fact, the Mackinac Island was called the most persecuted persecuted city in America in 2021, with many stories discussed for years. And with only a full -time population of about 583 people, ghosts may even outweigh the living.
Without allowed cars and transport confined to bicycles and horse carriages, the island offers a unique step in time. Some people come to enjoy the noiseless seaside and enjoy the famed fudge. The island has become an ideal summer place for Americans, but after tourists leave in autumn, the fog from the strait appears, and the leaves change color, the spirit of the island remains to persecute.
Short history of the island of Mackinac
The history of the island of Mackinac dates back to thousands of years, and native peoples, such as Odna, Ojibwe and Huron, taking into account the holy place long before the arrival of European settlers. The name of the island itself, from the word Ojibwe “Michilimackinac”, means “Big Turtle”, referring to the shape of the island when it is viewed from above.
The French started a shopping fur here in the 17th century, and the island later became a strategic military institution during the war for independence and war in 1812. At the end of the 19th century, it became a more summer colony and a tourist place, which is still a tourist place, it is still a tourist place.
Fort Mackinac and Echoes of War
Fort Mackinac, sitting on a bluff with a view of the island, is not only a historic place from the war of the war for independence, but also one of its most haunted ones. As most of the haunted places in America, they believe that the fort was built on a domestic commune.
The military fort dates back to 1779 founded by Patrick Sinclair, a British commander. Three years after its construction, he was to be handed over to the Americans, but Captain Robinson refused. In the end, this was handed over in 1796, but the fight of the fort is not over yet.
During the war in 1812 he was known as Fort Michilimackinac and the British returned. They returned to the fort with the support of natives and Canadians. It was an unexpected attack with cannons, and sixty American soldiers stationed in a fort were straightforward to beat. 13 died during the attack and 51 wounded.
However, in 1814, however, he was given to the Americans by the treaty, remaining with them without any fights before he was withdrawn in 1895.
Both soldiers and civilians reported unexplained phenomena, including abusing traces, sudden icy spots and the spectral figures of soldiers in the 18th century uniforms. Mysterious balls appear in the pictures of tourists. And it seems that haunting is confined not only to one of the 14 historical buildings of the fort.
Hospital Haunting
There used to be a hospital now acting as an exhibition in Fort, showing how it was done in the nineteenth century. The doctor known as the father of stomach physiology worked here and examined the digestive system in detail after the fur fired a hole in the stomach and survived. Dating in 1828, this is the oldest hospital building in Michigan. Like many who died in the battle, even more died of diseases such as typhoid fever and other diseases.
In the hospital, many visitors felt an overwhelming sense of sadness to overcome them, thinking that they must have a paranormal source. It is also said that you can hear the sound of crying children. The furniture moves mysteriously, and traffic detectors leave, even when nobody is there.
There is also a mysterious case of people who claim that they have seen floating containers in the air and appear in the pictures.
Children persecuting fort
Fort Mackinac was not only a military institution, but also served as a home for people stationed there. In the stone quarters of the officer lived the family of people located in the fort, including children. It is now a tea room and has toys for children who seem to still play after hours.
It is said that this building is the oldest Michigan building from 1780 and it is not surprising that ghost stories were created inside. It is said that a group of ghost children is playing, leaving toys for people to find on the floor in the morning. It is believed that children had a father's stationing there, but do we know their names?
Siblings cowles persecuting fort
There were many children in the fort, including Josiah and Isabel Cowles, who died in infancy. Could these be children with a haunted event in a stone district?
The family has moved from the position to the position for the last ten years and came to Fort Mackinac in 1884, a developing tourist city. It was supposed to be a fresh beginning, but soon after their arrival Josiah died. They went away for a moment, but returned with his daughter Isabel, born in New York. Just before her first birthday, she also died on the island. Two children were buried side by side in the cemetery.
Their mother, Mary Ella Cowles, never recovered and their death mourned deeply. It is also said that he persecutes the fort, often seen in Officer Hills residential quarters, standing helplessly and watching her children die because of a disease that no one could cure. It is also said that he is haunting his graves at the Fort Mackinac cemetery.
Fort after hours
Thirteen other children have died in Fort for years and they were all buried at the Fort Mackinac Post cemetery, so you don't really know which of them, which is considered to be played in a fort at night.
When the sun sets to the island of Mackinac, casting long shadows on its historical buildings, the past still remains in the nippy evening air. Stories about Fort Mackinac and its spectral residents serve as a reminder of the luxurious, though haunted history of the island.
