Jane Stanford's mysterious death
On February 28, 1905, Jane Stanford, co -founder of Stanford University, met a tragic end in Moana Surfrider, then called Moana Hotel. Stanford stayed in a hotel to recover after attempts to murder in her life – poisoning Strymnine in California. She hoped that Hawaiian air would be a healing escape from her troubles, and her seemingly enemies wanted her not to live. However, fate had other plans.
That night Stanford complained about his illness and soon undergoing a mysterious second poisoning. Her death shocked the nation and although some ruled it with a natural heart attack, others whispered because of foul and remaining intrigue.
As mentioned, she was not poisoned for the first time. On January 14 of the same year in which she was poisoned after drinking mineral water, when she was in her residence at Nob Hill in San Francisco. She managed to vomit the poison. Her maid Bertha Berner was suspicious and released, but she never accused because there was no evidence, motives or potential customers. She was a trusted person who served Stanford for twenty years, but was also the only present person when poisoning occurred.
Sad and tired of all this, Stanford sailed to Hawaii to regain in tropical air, thinking about continuing Japan, but as if the circumstances, she never left Hawaii.
What really happened is still uncertain, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain unresolved. Is it someone else who finally managed to take her life and what motive they had? Or maybe so many claimed, simply weakened with recent poisoning and died of illness?
