One of the most eminent haunted house stories in Barcelona, Spain dates back to 1935, when residents of the building at number 43 on Carrer Francisco Giner in Barcelona experienced what they believed to be paranormal phenomena.
The building is located in a classic district of Barcelona, with narrow streets, red stone buildings and plants hanging from windows and miniature balconies. But one night the building made headlines across Spain when something unexplainable happened.
Many people living in the building claimed to have experienced what they believed to be the work of a poltergeist-like creature that frightened residents with the sounds of banging on the building's walls. The furniture reportedly remained airborne for several days. It has since become known as the first documented poltergeist phenomenon in Catalonia.
The night the poltergeist came to the building
On February 10 this year, the Montroig and Mondoza family were sleeping peacefully when they were awakened by clamorous banging on the walls. The oldest son got out of bed to see what was happening. Suddenly, cabinet drawers began to open on their own, throwing themselves violently onto the floor.
Soon, the entire neighborhood on Carrer Francisco Giner was awakened by clamorous banging, and the entire building suddenly became a witness to strange events. They got scared and called for aid from the guards, and the night watchman went out to look for the source of the noise. He couldn't find anything.
Suddenly the noises stopped and the neighbors went back to bed, confused but tired enough to fall asleep peacefully again, thinking that this was a one-time thing that they would never have to go through again.
Haunting Series
But the next day it happened again and morning came. When people returned from work, the situation was still ongoing.
After returning from work, Mr Montroig filed a complaint with the police, but when the police arrived to investigate, they were still unable to find the cause or source of the noise.
The next evening the noise stopped and everyone thought the sounds had ended. But the next evening it all started again and according to the residents, especially the Montroig family, it only got worse.
In their apartment, a chair began to levitate. The lamp was spinning, the cutlery was floating in the air, and the clock hands were speeding up, going crazy.
Some residents of house no. 43 even claimed that they saw white shadows moving through the building's corridors and the temperature suddenly dropped. Not only that, but bulky hailstorms also covered the building and yard.
The people living in the building on Carrer Francisco Giner could no longer bear the haunting and fled the place. Both the police and the press arrived and witnessed what happened as paranormal phenomena continued for a week.
There is really no absolute solution to this matter. The entire Montroig family decided to leave the building and moved. Like many other tenants living there. But since then, little has happened on this peaceful street.
What really happened at Carrer Francisco Giner?
However, no one really knows what happened that week, and speculation continues to this day. It is speculated that this was caused by a teenage son in the Montroig family. Joan Monroig was ill at the time, and some speculated that this was what attracted the poltergeist to the apartment building.

The police found nothing. Many things that happened could have been recreated by a living human being, such as flying chairs. But what they never managed to answer were the vibrations that seemed to run through the entire building as seen through the windows. To this day, the case remains unsolved.
